The Cosby Show alum has been tapped for a guest star role on This Is Us.

Deadline confirms that Phylicia Rashad, best known for her role as Claire Huxtable, has been set to play Beth’s mother in an upcoming episode of This Is Us. Rashad will portray Carol, mother of Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson). She will make her appearance in episode 13 of the hit NBC drama that delves into Beth’s past.

Back in November, Watson spoke with TVLine about going deeper into Beth’s backstory.

“We had conversations with them telling the direction we were going in, what Beth was like in the past and what’s going to happen for her in the future, that type of thing,” Watson told the outlet. “We have a really great new writer Eboni Freeman, [who is] the main writer on it, and some of it is her story, very personal to her. They found a way to create this really beautiful backstory, and a beginning of a resolution of Beth starting to get back on her footing again. And then we have some amazing surprises in it. It’s going to be a really powerful episode.”

Two-time Emmy winner Rashad is currently starring as Diana Dubois on Fox’s Empire.
