The psychological thriller Eileen made quite a splash at Sundance this year, and its theatrical release date is finally on the horizon. Neon built up the hype for this highly-anticipated film by dropping a brand-new trailer starring Thomasin McKenzie and Anne Hathaway.

Eileen is based on Ottessa Moshfegh’s book of the same name, and she adapted it for the big screen alongside her husband Luke Goebel. They’re also producing this project alongside Anthony Bregman, Stefanie Azpiazu, Peter Cron, and its director William Oldroyd.

According to its official synopsis, Eileen is set during a bitter 1964 Massachusetts winter and it centers on a young secretary Eileen who becomes enchanted by the glamorous new counselor Rebecca at the prison where she works. Their budding friendship takes a twisted turn when Rebecca reveals a dark secret – throwing Eileen onto a sinister path.

In addition to McKenzie and Hathaway, the cast of Eileen also includes Shea Whigham, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Owen Teague, Jefferson White, Tonye Patano, and Marin Ireland.

Eileen had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival back in January, where it was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. Neon will release it in selected theatres in the United States on December 1, before expanding wide one week later.
