Stand-up comic and actress Tig Notaro is the new addition to the cast of Star Trek: Discovery. The 47-year-old One Mississippi star will portray the role of Chief Engineer Denise Reno of the U.S.S. Hiawatha in the second season of the CBS All Access’ sci-fi series although the exact number of episodes in which will be featured remains unknown. U.S.S. Hiawatha wasn’t part of the previous Star Trek live-action series but was mentioned in the video game Starfleet Command.

Tig Notaro joins Star Trek: Discovery after One Mississippi, series she created, directed, and starred in, was canceled by Amazon after two seasons. She also guest starred in ABC’s sitcom Fresh Off the Boat and will be part of Ken Marino’s upcoming drama Dog Days.

Besides Notaro, Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) will also join the cast of Star Trek: Discovery as Captain Christopher Pike, who was in charge of the U.S.S. Enterprise before Captain James T. Kirk.

The production on the second season of Star Trek: Discovery is set to begin this month, while the release date remains unknown.

Star Trek: Discovery premiered on CBS All Access in September 2017, becoming the first Star Trek series since Star Trek: Enterprise ended its run in 2005. The series follows the crew of U.S.S. Discovery and takes place roughly a decade before the events in Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969). The first season of the series was well received by the critics, who called it a” solid franchise installment for the next generation.” It stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, and Jason Isaacs among others.
