Timothée Chalamet has given us a first look at his upcoming film Wonka, in which he will play the titular character.

The actor posted a photo of himself on his Instagram account in costume as the chocolatier captioning it “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last,” which referenced a line spoken by Gene Wilder’s Wonka in the 1971 adaptation of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

The photo was also posted on his Twitter and Warner Bros. shared it on Facebook and Instagram.

Plot details for the upcoming film have been kept under wraps, but according to reports, the prequel will show how Willy Wonka became the candymaker. Production has been billed as a musical, and reps have confirmed Chamalet will be singing and dancing.

The character of Wonka debuted in Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which followed a poor boy named Charlie Bucket who wins a golden ticket to take a tour of Wonka’s incredible chocolate factory. The book has had two screen adaptations, with Wilder in 1971 and with Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2005 film.

Paul King is helming the movie and David Heyman is producing.

Joining the cast with Chamalet are Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, and others.

Wonka is set to be released in theaters on March 17, 2023.
