Tom Hanks’ “Mister Rogers” Film Gets a Title

The untitled Mr. Rogers finally has an official title. 

Sony Pictures has revealed that the Marielle Heller-helmed film starring Tom Hanks is titled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Hanks is set to portray the beloved TV personality Fred Rogers. The cast also includes Matthew Rhys, Chris Cooper, Tammy Blanchard, and Sakina Jaffrey.

Heller will direct from a script penned by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The screenplay is inspired by the article “Can You Say… Hero?” by Tom Junod. The film is based on the real-life friendship between Rogers and award-winning journalist Junod. It tells the story of Junod who begrudgingly accepted an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is scheduled to hit theaters October 18.
