Many celebrities have been open about the damaging effects of social media on their emotional well-being over the years and Tom Holland is the latest to join the pack. The Spider-Man star announced he’s taking a break from Instagram and Twitter to focus on his mental health.

Holland took to Instagram to announce his decision to “take a step back and delete the app” and admitted it took him about an hour to come up with the right words to say.

“I’ve taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming. I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online and ultimately, it’s very detrimental to my mental state,” said Holland.

The young actor also used this announcement to promote the charity stem4, an education program that helps young kids manage their mental health. He thanked his fans for their love and support and said he’ll speak to them soon.

Holland has always been very open about the pressures of fame and even said he’s considering taking a break from acting earlier this year. He’s set to play the role in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room and is attached to Sony’s Fred Astaire biopic.
