since the 2006 release of acclaimed album 10,000 Days, fans have been waiting for a new album by Tool. But although the band was touring regularly and announced an album from time to time, there were no new tunes since. Well, things could be different next year. Speaking with MetalSucks Podcast, the band’s drummer Danny Carey said that we should expect an album in 2018.

“It’ll be out. It’ll be out in 2018,” Carey said. “We’ll probably have it done in the first half [of 2018] if things go as planned. There’s setup times and manufacturing — I can never predict all that. It seems like it’s constantly evolving.”

Although the podcast host tried to get a release date out of Carey, the drummer remained silent, saying he can’t reveal that just yet. This, however, isn’t the first time that Tool sparks the talks about their new album. In 2014, the band also promised new music, and we have seen how that worked out.

“Stylistically, we’re trying to push things in different ways, but it always comes out sounding like Tool no matter what we’re trying to do,” – said Carey at the time. “We’re working everyday on it and it’s going really well, so I’m hoping we’ll get into the studio by the end of the year.”

Formed in Los Angeles, in 1990, Tool has released four albums so far, with the last two, 2001’s Lateralus and the most recent 10,000 Days having both commercial and critical success. The band also won three Grammy Awards. Over the years, Tool experimented with their music style, starting from heavy metal and incorporating progressive and psychedelic rock into their tunes.
