Billie Eilish made a thrilling return with Hit Me Hard and Soft, and her third studio album was definitely worth the wait. It certainly deserves to be listened to in full, but these five songs emerged as the early favorites among fans and critics alike.
“Lunch”
Released as the lead single Hit Me Hard and Soft, “Lunch” is the closest thing this album has to “Bad Guy”, and it sees Eilish getting very open about her attraction to women.
“Chihiro”
Named after the Spirited Away heroine, “Chihiro” is destined to become one of the album’s biggest hits, and its groovy sound grabs you right away and never lets go.
“Birds of a Feather”
“Birds of a Feather” explores the ties that binds us in the face of hardship, and it’s one of the softest and most radio-friendly songs that Hit Me Hard and Soft has in store.
“L’Amour de Ma Vie”
“L’Amour de Ma Vie” feels like two songs wrapped into one, and it sees Eilish not shying away from getting weird and experimental and switching things up.
“Blue”
Hit Me Hard and Soft is a cohesive album that often returns to the same lyrical ideas, and no song captures this better than its brilliant final track “Blue”.
