Like its main character, there is no way, it seems, to slow Top Gun: Maverick Down.

Though it took its time coming, the new sequel for the 1980s classic gets its release date bumped up by two days. Paramount announced that the potential blockbuster will be released on Wednesday, June 24th. This move can probably help the movie against Warner Bros.’ In the Heights — an adaptation of  Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical which is expected to be a summer blockbuster.

Top Gun: Maverick features Tom Cruise coming back to reprise his classic role as captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as well as Val Kilmer in his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazamsky. The rest of the cast includes Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, and Monica Barbaro.

The Only the Brave star Miles Teller will play Maverick’s new protege — the son of Goose who was his co-pilot in the original movie. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski and the script was penned by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, and Eric Warren Singer. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing alongside Tom Cruise and skydance CEO David Ellison. Bruckheimer also produced the original 1986 movie with Don Simpson.
