The new upcoming sequel to the classic Top gun, Top Gun: Maverick is going to be released 34 years after the first movie and it depicts what happens to the characters since the first film.

It comes as no surprise that the two main characters see the return of the original actors to portray them: Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Val Kilmer as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Chris Lebenzon who was the editor of the original film will also work on the sequel.

Lebenzon was nominated along with his co-editor Billy Weber for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. The editor collaborated with the director of the original film, Tony Scott, on other movies like Beverly Hills Cop II and Crimson Tide which garnered him another Oscar nomination. He also worked often with director Tim Burton. Other movies he takes credit for include Gone in 60 Seconds and Armageddon.

Top Gun: Maverick sees the protagonist comes back to the Top Gun aviation school as an instructor. There, he meets Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of his friend Nick “Goose” Bradshaw who died in the first movie. Jennifer Connelly will play a bar owner who becomes his love interest and Ed Harris and Jon Hamm will play his superior officers.
