HBO’s hit anthology series True Detective finds itself in problems one more. The network revealed that director Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room) has left season three of the show. Saulnier, who supposed to share the directorial duties with series’ creator Nic Pizzolatto for the entire third season, made an exit after finishing two episodes. Daniel Sackheim, who previously directed two episodes of Game of Thrones, will step in as Saulnier’s replacement.

“Director and executive producer Jeremy Saulnier has completed the first two episodes of True Detective season 3 and will be departing the production due to scheduling issues,” said HBO in a statement. “Daniel Sackheim has come on board as a director and executive producer for the series alongside series creator and director Nic Pizzolatto.”

It was said that the reason for Sauliner’s exit was the fact that he and Pizzolatto didn’t meet eye to eye on how the season three should look like.

After 2015’s season two met with mixed reviews from the critics, there was a strong possibility that True Detective might not return for season three. HBO finally decided to renew the show in August 2017, with Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali being attached as one of the leads. According to the network, new episodes of the series will “tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”

Nic Pizzolatto wrote the entire season three except the episode four which he co-wrote with David Milch (Deadwood). It is expected that the third season will have eight episodes like the previous ones. Although HBO didn’t reveal the premiere date, we shouldn’t expect it before 2019.
