Only a week after a Harry Potter series got the green light, another popular fantasy franchise is receiving the TV treatment. Lionsgate Television is currently plotting a series based on Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight franchise, but the project is still in the early stages of development.

Twilight is a major component of Lionsgate’s IP, along with The Hunger Games franchise, and it was just a matter of time before they found a new way to profit from it. TV adaptation seemed like the most feasible solution, especially after Lord of the Rings received similar treatment on Amazon Prime, and Harry Potter is going down the same road.

At this point, Lionsgate is simply weighing its options, and this series is still in the early stages of development. The author Stephanie Meyer is involved in the talks, but no writer has been attached to this project and the studio is yet to seek out a potential buyer.

Meyer’s Twilight book series was adapted into five films, which earned $3.4 billion globally. Despite being met with mixed critical reception, the Twilight saga earned cult status over the years and it was responsible for launching the careers of its stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner.
