Dutch DJ/producer Martin Garrix teamed up with U2’s frontman Bono Vox and guitarist The Edge to deliver the official anthem for the EURO 2020. The song, titled “We Are The People,” debuted on Thursday night on Wembley Stadium before being uploaded to all major streaming platforms.

According to a press release, the song was three years in the making. Garrix handled the music and production while Bono wrote the lyrics and melodies. The Edge came up with the leading guitar riffs, adding his recognizable stamp to the track.

The song aims to “reflect the positivity, hope and determination” that is required for the participating teams to succeed while also “offering a sense of togetherness.” Hear it below.

“Creating the music for one of the biggest sports events in the world together with Bono and The Edge has been an incredible experience,” said Garrix in a statement. “I’m very proud of what we did together and excited to finally share it with the world!”

Besides being the mastermind behind the EURO 2022’s official song, Garrix serves as an Official Music Artist for UEFA EURO 2020 and did the official walk-out music and broadcast tunes for the tournament.

Euro 2020 was scheduled to occur last year but was postponed for 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic. It starts on June 11th and will be played across the continent.
