Michael Angarano has been tapped to play Jack’s brother in season three of NBC’s hit drama, This Is Us.

Angarano whose credits include Will & Grace, Mom, The Knick, Sky High and 24 has been tapped to play Jack Pearson’s (Milo Ventimiglia) brother Nicky. The news was announced at the show’s FYC Emmys panel on Monday

Not much has been revealed about Nicky, but it is known that Jack and Nicky served together in Vietnam and that Nicky was killed in the war.

Season three is centered on Jack’s past, specifically his experience of the Vietnam war. As the war is central to the storyline of season three, writer Tim O’Brien has been tapped to consult and pen episodes alongside creator Dan Fogelman.

“We are challenging ourselves in season three,” executive producer Issac Attacker said. ”Now that we’ve figured out that our audience is along for the ride…we’re kind of breaking all the rules. We’re challenging ourselves to jump to decades we’ve never been to before, and going to the future as we’ve seen a little bit, and really play with the storytelling format in a way that’s just much more complicated than we were able to in earlier seasons, when we were kind of showing people how the show worked.”

The announcement was made on the series’ official Twitter. Angarano replied, “i am beyond grateful and very excited to be a part of this show – my grandmother even told her dentist.”
