Varsity Blues is getting an update thanks to Quibi.

The 1999 film starring James Van Der Beek and Jon Voight is being reimagined for the mobile-based streaming service Quibi. The project hails from Mike Tollin and Peter Guber’s MSM and Paramount Television.

The original followed the Dawson’s Creek alum as Jonathan Moxon, a quarterback in a Texas high school football team of misfits, who struggle to balance their lives with the pressures of the game all the while having to deal with their hostile and abusive coach (Voight).

Directing the modern take is 27 Dresses’ Anne Fletcher from a script by Tripper Clancy.

“For all those who cheered Mox’s refrain, ‘I don’t want your life,’ as well as all those who never heard of the West Canaan Coyotes, we’re thrilled to bring Varsity Blues to Quibi and into the 21st century!” original film’s producer and current project’s executive producer Mike Tollin said in a statement.

No casting has yet been announced.

Quibi is set to launch next spring.
