“Vida” Renewed for Season 2 at Starz

Mishel Prada and Melissa Barrera in "Vida"

Just days after drama Vida wrapped its first season, Starz decided to renew the series for season two. Premiere date and episode count for the second season are still to be determined.

Vida was created by Tanya Saracho (How to Get Away with Murder) and premiered on May 6, 2018. Based on the story Pour Vida written by Richard Villegas Jr., series revolves around two estranged Mexican-American sisters, Emma (Mishel Prada) and Lyn (Melissa Barrera), who come back to their old neighborhood after the death of their mother and discover a shocking truth about her identity. Besides Prada and Barrera, the series’ cast also includes Ser Anzoategui, Chelsea Rendon, Carlos Miranda, and Maria Elena Laas.

“Vida has delivered on its promise of attracting a young, new Latinx audience to the Starz platform, as we had hoped it would, and we are pleased to be able to announce a second season of the series,” said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement. “With these new episodes, Tanya and her team now have the opportunity to take audiences even deeper into the lives and community of the Hernandez sisters, and we look forward to bringing the next chapter of their story to life.”

Vida became a big success for Starz since its premiere, seeing rating growth with each episode. The series also received critical acclaim, currently holding 100% approval rating on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.
