History’s hit drama is coming to an end.

Deadline confirms that Vikings recently wrapped production on its sixth and now final season.

The upcoming 20-episode sixth season is expected to debut later this year.

Vikings has currently aired half of season five’s episode, with the season finale set to air this month. Series creator Michael Hirst said back in November, that fans should brace themselves for the season finale.

“There is an extraordinary twist right at the end of the season, which brings about a change that you just haven’t seen coming, that seemed impossible,” Hirst teased. “So basically, you will experience, as you watch it, very unexpected twists and turns. But right at the end, there is something that — a story changing, and you can’t see that coming.”

But there is some hope for Vikings fans. Deadline also confirmed that Hirst and studio MGM Television are in talks for a possible spinoff series. The same creative team as the original series had been set to helm the production, which would continue the Vikings epic.
