Sad news was announced on metal band Pantera’s Facebook page saying that their drummer Vinnie Paul has died. He was 54.
“Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away,” the band shared. “Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time. The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time.”
Paul and his brother Darrell Abbott formed Pantera together in the 1980s and gained worldwide fame until the separation in 2003. Darrell died during an on-stage shooting in 2004, as he was performing with his new band Damageplan.
Since 2006, Paul was the drummer for Hellyeah, a heavy metal supergroup that also includes Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell.
