Viola Davis won pretty much every award in the book and her latest transformed her into an EGOT winner. The acclaimed actress joined a short list of people who won all four major American entertainment awards following her Grammy win for the best audiobook.

Davis joined the EGOT club thanks to her memoir Finding Me, which won her a Grammy in the best audiobook, narration, and storytelling recording category. This was her first Grammy nomination, and she defeated the likes of Jamie Foxx and Lin-Manuel Miranda to win this award.

In her acceptance speech, Davis dedicated this award to her six-year-old self, saying she wrote it to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything. She also added it’s been such a journey to write this book and reach the EGOT status thanks to its success.

Davis’ quest for EGOT started in 2001 when she won her first Tony Award for best-featured actress in a play with King Hedley II. She won another Tony in 2010, for best leading actress in a play with Fences. The adaptation of this play won her an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2016, while she won her Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series with How to Get Away with Murder.
