Ghanaian-American fashion designer and DJ, Virgil Abloh, is the latest celebrity to get his own Beats 1 radio show on Apple Music. Titled Televised Radio, the program debuted on Monday, June 18th and will air weekly.

Virgil Abloh will record Televised Radio in the Louis Vuitton atelier in Paris and intends for the show to be “audio mood board” of the music that inspires him and his surprise guests who will drop by to discuss various topics including music, art, fashion, and design.

“Music has an amazing ability to bring people together, and I couldn’t think of a better format to catalog all the multidisciplinary work I do under one umbrella,” Abloh told Vogue about his show. “I’m using the two hours every so often to discuss various design projects and the rationale around them … in an effort to highlight my friends that make up my creative world. Apple’s design legacy and consideration of fostering art and design made it a perfect partnership.”

According to Apple Music head of content Larry Jackson, the timing of this project with Abloh perfect, adding that “there’s no better contemporary designer and creator to partner with” than the 37-year-old.

“As fashion shifts its point of view, embracing the influence of hip-hop culture, we felt that the time was right for Virgil to present a larger story through an exclusive Beats 1 show on Apple Music, which offers a glimpse into his design studio and the musical references driving the debut of his new collection next week, plus his other prolific work,” said Jackson. “In my opinion, there’s no better contemporary designer and creator to partner with.”

Virgil Abloh rose to prominence as creative director of Kanye West’s creative agency, DONDA. He then founded fashion label Off-White while also collaborating with brands like Nike and IKEA. In March 2018, Abloh was named the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear line.

He is also passionate about music, having been a DJ since high-school and has recently released his first track, collaboration with producer Boys Noize titled “ORVNGE.”
