Netflix followed up the announcement with a promise of a “twist-packed season” that will include “a funeral, a fire, a divorce, a hurricane, and a new romance.” The streamer previously revealed several new cast additions for the third season, including Stacey Farber and Zibby Allen.

Virgin River is based on Robyn Carr’s novels of the same name. The series, which premiered in 2019, follows nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (Breckenridge), who leaves her life in Los Angeles for a fresh start in the small town of Virgin River. Upon arrival, however, she realizes that a new beginning might not be as easy as she thought.

The series was a surprise hit for Netflix, receiving praise from critics while becoming one of the most-watched shows on the platform. According to the streamer, Virgin River racked up 1.8 billion minutes of viewing in late 2020, ending The Crown‘s reign on the top of Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings.
