“Walking Dead” Boss: Andrew Lincoln “Itching” to Reprise His Role

Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and Danai Gurira in "The Walking Dead"

The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple has revealed that Andrew Lincoln is very keen to reprise his role as Rick Grimes.

Lincoln starred as the show’s protagonist for eight years. He is one of the show’s most well-loved zombie-fighting characters and when he left the show in season nine, fans were pretty disappointed.

Now, Gimple has confirmed that Rick Grimes will be returning in the trilogy of Walking Dead movies. The franchise will pick up on Rick’s story from where the TV series left off. Lincoln will be reprising his role as the core TWD character.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Gimple revealed that Lincoln is very involved in the production process. He said: “He throws around the football with the rest of us. He’s very, very invested in this thing.” He then added: “I got to tell you, [Lincoln’s] itching to get back, too. We all are.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Gimple revealed that the film trilogy will invite new fans while also honoring those who have invested in the series.

“We have to honor people who have invested the time in their lives in the show,” he explained. “But we can’t do that at the expense of inviting everybody. I think those things can work together… Rick has a history and the history will be present within him and it’ll be a big part of who he is.”

He added: “But it’s likely going to be a very different Rick that we see as well.”

The Walking Dead movie has no set release date.
