Curb Your Enthusiasm star Wanda Sykes is the latest comedian to receive her own stand up special on Netflix. The 54-year-old actress and writer recently inked a deal with the streaming service giant for her fifth comedy special overall and first in two years. It is set to premiere on Netflix in 2019 and will be produced by Sykes’ own production company, Push It Productions.

This announcement comes after Wanda Sykes openly criticized Netflix earlier this year for offering her substantially less money for the special than some other comedians like Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Amy Schumer received from the streaming giants. Both Rock and Chappelle got $20 million each for their stand-up specials while Amy Schumer got $13 million. According to Sykes, she was offered less than $250K. The money issues, however, look all sorted now and we will get to stream Sykes’ own special very soon.

Wanda Sykes started her career in comedy as a stand-up comedian and writer. Her first significant recognition came during her time as a writer on The Chris Rock Show, for which she landed a Primetime Emmy Award. Sykes also had roles in movies like My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Evan Almighty and Rio while also acting on television in series like Curb Your Enthusiasm, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Blackish and Broad City.

Her first comedy stand up special came in 2003 with Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied, after which 2006’s Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired, 2009’s I’ma Be Me and 2016’s What Happened … Ms Sykes followed.
