Everyone’s favorite alien has finally returned back to earth to reconnect with his human friend Elliot, played by Henry Thomas in the 1982 Steven Spielberg film.

“The audience is going to get everything they want out of a sequel without the messy bits that could destroy the beauty of the original and the special place it has in people’s minds and hearts,” Thomas said.

While A Holiday Reunion is only 4 minutes long, we’re excited to see Elliot as a grown-up who’s married with two kids of his own that bare a striking resemblance to a younger version of Elliot and Gertie, played by Drew Barrymore. The film plugs Xfinity and it resembles the original.

“It’s called the Internet,” Elliott’s son says to E.T. “A lot’s changed since you were here,” Elliot says.

Viewers of NBC’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade caught a two-minute glimpse of the promotional video and a 30-second clip is being shown at movie theatres during the holiday weekend. In total there are nine videos, and they were shown on Thanksgiving day on NBC primetime and NFL games on CBS and Fox and they will continue playing through January 5.

E.T was a huge success at the box office and it went on to win four Oscars and gross over $359 million in the U.S and $304 million internationally.
