We can count on Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet to deliver an amazing performance in every movie they’re in, and they’re finally ready to do that by each other’s side. The first trailer for their period drama Ammonite is here, and it shows them searching for fossils—and love.
Ammonite centers on acclaimed paleontologist and fossil hunter Mary Anning who develops an intense relationship with a young woman recovering from a personal tragedy on the shores of a small Southern English coastal town in the 1840s.
In addition to Ronan and Winslet, this period drama stars Fiona Shaw, James McArdle, and Gemma Jones. Ammonite was written and directed by Francis Lee, who received critical acclaim for her feature debut God’s Country. While discussing the project with Entertainment Weekly, she described it as the story about the power of a deep, intimate, human relationship.
The film will have a virtual screening at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11th, but it’s unclear when we’ll get to see it in the theaters.
