Michael Mando was supposed to lead Apple TV+’s crime drama series Sinking Spring, but another actor is stepping in after he exited the series. Wagner Moura will star in this promising project opposite Brian Tyree Henry following Mando’s exit.

Sinking Spring is based on Dennis Tafoya’s book Dope Thief, and it centers on two long-time friends, who become involved in a risky life-and-death enterprise after discovering the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard during a small-time grift.

The Narcos star Moura joined the project in the role of Manny Cespedes, a good-hearted friend of Henry’s character Ray, who met him while they did time together in the Youth Authority. He’s stepping in for Better Call Saul alum Michael Mando, who was reportedly let go after an on-set altercation with another cast member.

Moura rose to prominence while playing Pablo Escobar in Netflix’s Narcos, and received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. He recently starred opposite Elisabeth Moss in the Apple TV+ series Shining Girls and the Netflix action movie The Gray Man, led by Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.

The eight-episode series was created by Top Gun: Maverick writer Peter Craig, who’ll also executive produce the project and direct one episode. David W. Zucker, Jordan Sheehan, and Clayton Krueger are also coming on board as producers, while Henry will executive produce the series.
