Friends was, and still is, a cultural phenomenon that brought many catchphrases into our lives. Maybe the most infamous catchphrase is “we were on a break!” yelled by Ross Geller in the third season of the show—and several other times throughout the series.
Ross made that claim after he was caught sleeping with another woman. At the time, Ross was under the impression that they were on a temporary break. The subject will resurface several times during the couple’s relationship.
Friends turned 25 this year and fans are still debating who was in the right—Ross or Rachel. Now, David Schwimmer who played Ross is weighing in.
Schwimmer spoke to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show and said: “People are so passionately divided on whether or not [Ross and Rachel] were ‘on a break’.” Fallon asked him for his opinion on the matter and he declared: “Yes, it’s not even a question, they were on a break.”
The actor also addressed the upcoming reunion that was due to premiere on HBO in May but was delayed. “It’s supposed to happen maybe in August, the middle of August, but honestly we’re going to wait and see another week or two if we all determine it’s really safe enough to do. And if not, then we’ll wait until it’s safe,” he said.
