“We can save this world. We can burn it to the ground and from the ashes build a new world,” warns Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood).

The trailer for the second season of Westworld was released during the Super Bowl LII. The television series is a science fiction western thriller which is set in the future and features high-paying guests, who can enter the western-themed amusement park and indulge in everything the park has to offer without fear of retaliation from the ‘hosts’. This initial premise was true until the season one finale, where the ‘hosts’ led by Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) started retaliating against the human ‘guests’.

The trailer for season two reveals that it picks up where season one left off, Dolores along with other hosts are rebelling against the ‘Hosts’ as well as the employees of the amusement park.During the entire trailer, we hear a monologue from Delores Abernathy soundtracked by a piano version of Kanye West'” ‘Runaway” that says “Look at this world. This beautiful world. We built this world together.” However, she adds that “this world is a lie. This world deserves to die. Because this is your world. We’ve lived by your rules long enough. ” Throughout the trailer, we see returning ‘hosts’ played by Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton and Angela Sarafyan, as well as Ed Harris’ Man in Black.

In an interview with The Guardian, show runner Jonathan Nolan explained that Westworld is a “story of the origin of a new species on this planet” and this will be a huge theme in the next season. The second season of Westworld will return on HBO on Sunday April 22nd, 2018.
