Will We Ever Get to See “Machete Kills in Space”?

Ten years ago, the perfect combination between bad and fun made the first Machete movie a classic homage to B-movies. 3 years later, the sequel, Machete Kills, failed to reach the correct balance, but still left room for, and even teased, a threequel. But the years have passed and the third installment, Machete Kills in Space, is nowhere in sight.

Now, the franchise lead actor Danny Trejo delivered some bad news for the future. Talking with Discussing Film, the actor revealed there is a lack of connection between him and the movie’s director, his cousin Robert Rodriguez.

Machete, Machete Kills, if Robert would ever get off his a**, he’d write Machete Kills in Space! I might write it,” said Trejo. “You know I haven’t spoken to Robert in a while. He’s been really busy and I’ve been busy. Maybe I’ll call him, see what’s up. But I haven’t talked to Robert for a while. He kind of dumped me I think… I got too big (laughs). He’s great. But he’s busy, he’s got six kids. That will keep you busy. His kids are wonderful too.”

The duo might yet cooperate in another outworldly franchise, however. Rodriguez has recently directed an episode in the second The Mandalorian season and the writer Gary Whitta has promised to try and involve Trejo in a future season of the show.
