After two seasons on HBO, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is going out with a loss. The sports drama set in the world of basketball officially ended its run after two seasons.

Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, the series is set during the Showtime era of the Los Angeles Lakers, which saw Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar take this basketball team to new heights.

The series stars John C. Reilly, Jason Clarke, Jason Segel, Gaby Hoffmann, Rob Morgan, and Adrien Brody. It was heavily criticized for its historical inaccuracies by several figures depicted in the series, despite being well-received by film critics.

The show’s creator Max Borenstein signed off by writing, “Not the ending that we had in mind. But nothing but gratitude and love,” while the director Salli Richardson added that you can have no regrets when you give it everything you’ve got.

“I hope you enjoy the last episode of @winningtimehbo I am sure I will do many more hours of TV and hopefully many features in my future, but I can say that at this moment in time I am most proud of the work we did on this masterful show,” wrote Richardson on Instagram.
