Zac Efron danced his way into our hearts as a cast member of High School Musical, but those days are long gone. He’s ready to completely ditch his Disney persona by taking on the role of Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.

the first trailer for this intriguing film sees Efron transforming into the infamous serial killer, who reportedly murdered at least 30 women. The upcoming biopic tells Bundy’s story from the viewpoint of his girlfriend, and that’s part of the reason why the young actor was attracted to this project.

“This movie was really about a human being, somebody that perhaps I would have been friends with. And a love story from a very unique perspective. I’ve never seen that before. It’s intriguing to me,” explained Efron.

Despite his fascination with the script, the former Disney star wanted to make sure this movie is not celebration nor glorification of Ted Bundy. He described it as honest depiction of his journey because it’s a psychological study of who he was as a person.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, but the date of theatrical release is yet to be announced.
