A prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead titled Army of Thieves is in the works and the director released first look photos.
The film’s set prior to the events of Army of the Dead and it will take place during the early stages of the zombie outbreak, centering around Dieter. Matthias Schweighöfer will be returning as the German safecracker Dieter and he appears alongside an odd group of bandits that include Nathalie Emmanue, Ruby O. Fee, Guz Khan, and Jonathan Cohen.
Schweighöfer is directing the prequel and Snyder and his wife Deborah are producing. The script was penned by Shay Hatten from an original story co-written by Snyder and Hatten.
Army of the Dead starred Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, and Schweighöfer. It debuted on Netflix and in select theaters in May 2021. The film was a spiritual sequel to Snyder’s feature film debut, 2004’s Dawn of the Dead and it featured a group of people who plan a Las Vegas casino heist during a zombie apocalypse.
