Zendaya has some ideas for the next season of Euphoria.

The HBO show, based on an Israeli series of the same name, has regularly topped viewership charts as audiences tune in to follow the scandalous lives of high school students in the fictional Southern California community of East Highland.

Zendaya’s performance as Rue Bennett has earned her both critical and fan praise, as well as an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Series. With the show having been renewed for a third season, the Dune star, who also serves as executive producer, says she’d like to see what the characters are like outside of high school.

“I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be.”

Season two of Euphoria picked up 16 nominations at the 2022 Primetime Emmys, with Zendaya expected to win again for Best Actress. It has been revealed, however, that the 25-year-old actress was not the first choice for the role of Rue.

According to Euphoria casting director, Jennifer Venditti, the lead almost went to an unknown actress with a similar background to Rue, but producers were unsure whether she would handle the emotional pressure of such a heavy role.
