It’s been a while since we’ve seen Cameron Diaz lead a major movie, but she’s finally ready for a comeback! The Golden Globe-nominated actress announced her decision to “un-retire” with the role in a Netflix action-comedy Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx.

The plot details about this aptly named movie are being kept under wraps, but it will be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), who co-wrote the script with Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors). Foxx will executive produce the film alongside O’Brien and Datari Turner.

Foxx and Diaz previously co-starred in Annie, the last film she appeared in before taking a break from acting in 2014. She played lead roles in comedies The Other Woman and Sex Tape that same year and officially announced her retirement in 2018.

“It’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there. There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor… I do get the overwhelming energy of the attention that’s being put toward me,” Diaz told Gwyneth Paltrow in 2021.

Following her retirement, Diaz had a cameo in Elizabeth Banks’ rendition of Charlie’s Angels and appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Diaz said she’s “so excited” yet “anxious” about her un-retirement, but we’re happy to finally see that she’s back!
