Chris Pine Fights For Scottish Independence in “Outlaw King”

Chris Pine and Lorne MacFadyen in "Outlaw King"

Big blockbusters kept Chris Pine pretty busy in the last couple of years, but he’s ready for new endeavors. The trailer for his upcoming historical drama Outlaw King just dropped, and it’s taking us to the fields of medieval Scotland.

Braveheart meets The Revenant in Pine’s next project, which is all about nobility, glory, and revenge. The Star Trek actor takes on the role of legendary Robert the Bruce, who’s trying to reclaim control of Scotland. He’s forced into hiding after being made an outlaw by the King of England but decides it’s time to stop running. He builds a strong following and gets ready to ignite a war against “the strongest army in the world”.

Outlaw King reunites Pine with David Mackenzie, the director behind the critically acclaimed western Hell or High Water, a surprising hit that received four Oscar nominations after it came out in 2016, including the prestigious Best Picture award.

We’re yet to see if their upcoming project can replicate its success, but it looks promising so far. Outlaw King will debut as the opening night of the Toronto Film Festival, making it the perfect candidate for an Academy Award. Pine’s fans will have to wait until November 9 to see it on their own. That’s when this historical epic opens in selected theaters and launches globally on Netflix.
