The Penguin is one of the most exciting new shows being developed by HBO Max and DC Studios, and this project just found another amazing cast member. Clancy Brown joined The Penguin in the role of a formidable mob boss and gangster Salvatore Maroni.

The Penguin is set in the same world as the last year’s The Batman, where Sal Maroni was only briefly referenced without making an actual appearance. It was mentioned he had been arrested in a major drug bust, but it was later revealed he was set up by Carmine Falcone and corrupt city officials.

Throughout the comics and films, Maroni has been presented as a powerful mob boss and gangster in Gotham City, and one of many enemies of Batman. Brown is following in the footsteps of Dennis Paladino (Batman Forever) and Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), who portrayed this character in the past.

The Penguin will see Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot aka The Penguin from The Batman, and he’ll be joined by Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. The series was created by Lauren LeFranc, and it will chronicle The Penguin’s rise to power in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
