Bill Hader and Alec Berg gave us one of the most riveting comedy shows in recent years with Barry, but all good things must come to an end. HBO confirmed that this dark crime dramedy will end its run with the upcoming fourth season, set to premiere this spring.

Barry centers on a veteran and hitman who tries to turn his life around by traveling to Los Angeles and becoming an actor. Despite his best attempts to start anew, he’s constantly being haunted by his past and pulled back into the life of crime that affects everyone around him.

In addition to co-creating the show alongside Berg, Hader also plays the titular role, while the rest of the cast includes Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Michael Irby, Anthony Carrigan, and Sarah Goldberg.

Hader also directed all the episodes in Season 4 and told Variety it made sense to end the show after “a very clear ending presented itself”.

“What happens in Season 4 is structurally radical in some ways, but it made sense for what I think the characters needed to go through… You realize, well, we could pad a lot of stuff, and just make story. But if we’re going forward, it ends in Season 4,” explained Hader.

Season 4 of Barry will premiere on HBO on April 16, and it will feature a total of eight episodes.
