George Clooney has given us several pretty great movies since deciding to give directing a shot, and he has another one on the way. He’s bringing The Boys in the Boat to theatres near you this winter, and the first trailer for this promising sports drama is finally here.

The Boys in the Boat is based on Daniel James Brown’s book of the same name, but the story at its center is 100% true. This biographical sports drama centers on the University of Washington’s rowing team, which competed for gold at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin.

What makes their story so extraordinary is the team’s unbreakable spirit in the face of many obstacles they’ve faced long before heading to Berlin. This team of underdogs mostly consisted of working-class students, who were thrust into the spotlight to take on elite rivals from around the world.

The Boys in the Boat is about strong, tough kids. They were poor and hungry. They’re rowing because it’s the only way they can stay in college. The stakes were much higher for them, and it gave them an edge,” said Clooney in a behind-the-scenes featurette.

The Boys in the Boat will be released on December 25 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and its ensemble cast includes Callum Turner, Joel Edgerton, Peter Guinness, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jack Mulhern, Sam Strike, and Alec Newman.
