Wednesday became one of the biggest hits in Netflix’s history, largely thanks to Jenna Ortega’s amazing performance, but the actress had to go the extra mile to make it work. The Golden Globe nominee revealed she was “almost unprofessional” while filming the series and had to change lines to make the character more authentic.

During a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Ortega listed many changes she insisted on while filming the hit series. She singlehandedly changed many lines because she felt they weren’t the right fit and left the script supervisor confused with her choices.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down on a set in the way that I had to on Wednesday because it’s so easy to fall into that category, especially with this type of show. Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all,” said Ortega.

The young actress listed several instances where she felt Wednesday was doing things that felt out of character, from being in a love triangle to saying that she loves her school dance dress. She also revealed that the viral dance scene was originally supposed to be a flash mob scene, but she was firmly against that creative choice.
