The long-awaited sequel to 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back will finally enter production in August 2018, according to director Kevin Smith. The sequel, titled Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, was announced back in February 2017 but no further details surfaced since.

On Thursday, however, Kevin Smith decided to give fans some details about the project, during Q&A session at his podcast Fatman on Batman. Besides revealing that Jay and Silent Bob Reboot should enter production in August 2018 and with a release date set for August 2019, Smith also spoke about the plot of the movie.

“We’re doing a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and it’s called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” said Smith. “It’s us, it’s me and Jay so it’s not really strictly a reboot in the way that people think of a reboot. If you remember Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back it was a movie in which Jay and Silent Bob found out Hollywood was making a movie about them so they went cross country to Hollywood to stop that from happening. In Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jay and Silent Bob find out that Hollywood is making a reboot of that old movie that they had made about them, and they have to go across the country to Hollywood to stop it all over again. It’s a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time.”

Original 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back focused on marijuana selling duo Jay and Silent Bob, frequent supporting characters in other movies of Kevin Smith including Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma. The movie received mixed reviews from the critics and was a minor box office success, grossing $33.8 million compared to $22 million budget.
