Mayim Bialik spent an entire decade making us laugh as one of the stars of the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Now that this show is over, she’s ready for new creative endeavors, and her next will see her sitting in the director’s chair for the first time.

Her first film, As Sick As They Made Us, will be based on the script she wrote herself, and it will tell the complex story of a divorced mother who’s struggling to help her estranged brother visit their dying father.

This project is extremely personal for the Emmy-nominated actress and is inspired by her own experiences.

“After my father’s passing four and a half years ago, I decided to explore the complexity of mental illness and familial responsibility – especially as it falls on women – as well as to highlight the redemptive nature of a family’s love as they navigate death and continue to live life on their own terms,” said Mayim Bialik in a statement.

Anne Clements and Ash Christian will be in charge of producing this project, and we’re yet to see who will join the cast.
