There’s always a lot of buzz surrounding Quentin Tarantino’s films, and it seems he’s finally plotting his next big project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the acclaimed director is currently putting together his next movie The Movie Critics, which could potentially be his last.

Not much is known about this mystery project at the time and no studio is attached. Sources say it’s set in late 1970s Los Angeles with a female lead at its center. Based on this brief logline, The Hollywood Reporter speculates Pauline Kael could be its main subject.

Kael went down in history as one of the most influential movie critics of her generation, but her frequent clashes with filmmakers and editors often overshadowed her work. She was a consultant for Paramount during the late ’70s—the time that Tarantino’s film will reportedly cover.

The Hollywood Reporter also believes that Tarantino’s next film could focus on Kael because it’s no secret that he has a deep respect for her. Back in 1994, he told Time Magazine “she was as influential as any director was in helping me develop my aesthetic. I never went to film school, but she was the professor in the film school of my mind.”

Tarantino’s last film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood came out in 2019, and it was nominated for ten Oscars, winning two.
