We are amongst the millions holding out hope for Legally Blonde 3.
The original film, starring Reese Witherspoon, was released 21 years ago and remains a cult classic. Witherspoon is even quoted as having said, “At least once a week, I have a woman come up to me and say, ‘I went to law school because of Legally Blonde.’”
An announcement was made two years ago that a third Legally Blonde film was in the works that would be a follow-up to Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde which came out in 2003. Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor would pen the screenplay, with Witherspoon reprising her role as Elle Woods.
Although the film initially had a 2022 release date, the court has not even entered the session.
But, the Little Fires Everywhere star has said, she is “still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 is gonna come together in the right way.”
Whilst speaking to USA Today, the 46-year-old shared that she and the team behind the movie received some inspiration of late.
“It’s just like Top Gun. They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it. So definitely that gave us a lot of inspiration about what we would want to do with Elle Woods and make sure that we had all those same touchstones that mattered to people back then. I feel like these characters are my friends, so I safeguard them. I would never make the subpar, mediocre version of their story.”
In that case, we have no objections.
