All good things must come to an end – even Robert Redford’s acting career. One of the brightest stars in Hollywood’s history announced he’ll retire after his next movie comes out.

The two-time Oscar winner already hinted he might retire soon in 2016, but it seems he’s actually serious. Upcoming crime comedy The Old Man & the Gun will most likely be his last movie. Redford obviously wants to leave on a positive note, and David Lowery’s crime comedy will allow him to do that.

“Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I’ll] move towards retirement after this ‘cause I’ve been doing it since I was 21. I thought, well, that’s enough. And why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?” said the iconic actor.

It’s bittersweet to watch the sun setting on the Sundance Kid’s acting career, but it’s filled with amazing moments and exciting adventures. Robert Redford rose to prominence in 1969, after playing one of the lead roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. His filmography also includes timeless classics The Sting, All the President’s Men and Out of Africa.

Acting isn’t the only way Redford left the mark on the world of film. He founded Sundance Film Festival and supported independent filmmakers around the world for decades. He’s also an acclaimed director, with one Oscar under his belt for his work on Ordinary People. After being asked if he’s also retiring from directing, Redford said “We’ll see about that.”
