It doesn’t happen often that the movie studio buys movie rights to a book that has not been published yet. Ernest Cline had the luck that the Warner Bros. bought the movie rights for his book Ready Player One in 2010, on the same day he signed a deal with a publisher, and one year before the book was even out.
Since then, Ready Player One became a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into 20 languages, with the sequel reportedly being in the works.
Meanwhile, the movie adaptation got a director in Steven Spielberg and release date in March of 2018. The movie also has an interesting cast that includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, and T. J. Miller.

In order to escape the hard reality, the majority of people search for escape in virtual reality world of the OASIS, where they can find entertainment and engage in numerous different activities. Unlike others, teenager Wade Owen Watts isn’t just looking for entertainment, but also tries to win a game that would bring him an enormous fortune. Unfortunately for him, there are others who have their eyes set on the same goal as he.
Ready Player One will hit theaters March 30, 2018.
