According to Amazon MGM Studios’ official logline, The Idea of You centers on Solène, a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.”

In addition to Hathaway and Galitzine in the lead roles, this romance drama also stars Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, Viktor White, Raymond Cham, Jaiden Anthony, and Dakota Adan. It was co-written by Jennifer Westfeldt and Michael Showalter, who also serves as its director.

The Idea of You draws inspiration from Harry Styles’ time with One Direction, but Lee previously told Vogue it was never a story about the famous singer, but about “a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her se-uality and rediscovering herself.”

The Idea of You will have its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 16, as the festival’s closing film. It will be released by Amazon Prime Video on May 2.

The official synopsis describes Mothers’ Instinct as an unnerving psychological thriller about two best friends and neighbors, Alice (Chastain) and Céline (Hathaway). Their perfect lives in ‘60s suburbia are shattered by a tragic accident involving one of their children, which ends up revealing the darker side of maternal love.

Mothers’ Instinct marks the directorial debut of acclaimed cinematographer Benoit Delhomme, and it’s based on Barbara Abel’s novel from 2012. This book already produced the Belgian adaptation Duelles, directed by by Olivier Masset-Depasse. Sarah Conradt wrote the script for the English-language version.

In addition to the leading duo, this film will also star Josh Charles, Anders Danielsen Lie, Baylen D. Bielitz, and Eamon Patrick O’Connell. Hathaway and Chastain have also been credited as producers, alongside Chastain’s Freckle Films partner Kelly Carmichael.

Mother’s Instinct still doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s expected to hit the theaters later this year. Neon will release it in the US, while StudioCanal will handle the distribution rights in the UK.

Hathaway reflected on her Barbie movie during a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast and said she has no regrets about not playing this character. She praised the team behind Greta Gerwig’s Barbie for hitting a bullseye with their adaptation, which went on to become the highest-grossing film of 2023.

Hathaway also said that its leading lady Margot Robbie was “just sublime” in the film, and praised her work both in front and behind the camera, as one of the film’s producers.

“Just as a cinema-goer and just as a woman in Hollywood since I was a kid, I’m thrilled by the development. If I believed that the version I was attached to could have done that, yeah, I might feel differently about it, but I genuinely think their [film] was the best possible version,” said Hathaway.

“I’ve been furloughed. Now there’s literally zero purpose to my life,” Ejiofor says in the trailer. Hathaway hosts a video call where she has to lay her employees. “The nice people that I fired? They were fired because of me,” she says to Ejiofor.

Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, Ben Stiller, and Ben Kingsley are also in the film.

Locked Down was filmed in the U.K. from September to October under COVID-19 protocols. The script comes from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and was produced by P.J. van Sandwijk, Alison Winter, and Michael Lesslie. AGC Studios’ Stuart Ford, Miguel Palos Jr., and Alastair Burlingham served as executive producers, with Liman and Knight.
