Netflix’s official synopsis describes The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar as “a beloved Roald Dahl story about a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.”

It’s categorized as a short film since it’s only 39 minutes long, and it’s been conceived as the first project in a four-part series of short films adapted from Dahl’s short stories, including The Swan, The Ratcatcher, and Poison.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar has a much smaller cast than Anderson’s classic large ensemble projects, and it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character alongside Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar had its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, and it will get a limited theatrical release on September 20 before heading to Netflix one week later.

How to Stop Time centers on Tom Hazard, a man who was born in 15th century France and spent over 600 years losing everyone and everything he loves due to being born with a rare condition that makes him live for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Studiocanal optioned the rights for Haig’s book alongside Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch about six years ago and initially started developing it as a feature. They later decided it would work better as a TV series, and Cumberbatch is happy that this project will finally see the light of day.

“When I first read How to Stop Time, the potential of this story was immediately obvious. In his inimitable style, Matt once again explores what it is to be human and what it is to live a life – a very long one in this case – with pathos, insight, humor, drama, and inspiration,” he said in a statement.

Tomas Alfredson, who previously collaborated with Cumberbatch on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, will write and direct the project alongside DC Moore. The filming will take place across Europe next year.

The re-release of the hit movie will celebrate 60 years of Spider-Man comic book and 20 years of Spider-Man on film. It will hit the theatres under the name Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version on Labor Day weekend, starting on September 2.

The extended version will be shown in the US and Canada, but more countries are expected to be added soon. The official run-time of this project remains a mystery, but the original movie was 148 minutes long.

Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced the concept of the multiverse in the MCU, and brought back many heroes and villains from the previous movies, including former Spider-Man actors Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire.

Spider-Man: No Way Home made quite a splash when it hit the theatres in December last year, and it went on to earn $1.9 billion worldwide. It’s already the sixth-highest grossing film worldwide and the third-highest-grossing film domestically, but it could soar even higher following the release of the extended version.

After having his identity revealed at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) turns to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help. He tries to use magic to restore his secret identity, but the botched spell ends up breaking the multiverse open, allowing villains from alternate realities to reemerge.

Some of those villains happen to be Electro, Doctor Octopus, and Green Goblin, played by the actors from the previous Spider-Man installments – Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, and Willem Dafoe. Thomas Haden Church and Rhys Ifans are also expected to return as Sandman and Lizard.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will also see Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from the previous two Spider-Man movies. The film is scheduled to be released on December 17th. It marks the end of Holland’s contract with Marvel and he’s treating it as “the end of a franchise”, but he’s open to returning to the role again if asked.

Based on David Fisher’s book of the same name, War Magician chronicles the life of the British stage magician Jasper Maskelyne, best known for claiming to have created large-scale illusions that reportedly helped the British army defeat the Nazis during World War II.

This isn’t the first attempt to bring Maskelyne’s story to the big screen. Peter Weir previously revealed he was considering filming a movie based on the illusionist’s life starring Tom Cruise. He eventually decided to drop it because it was difficult to separate facts from fiction due to the possibility that Fisher fabricated parts of the story.

Trevorrow’s take will be based on a script written by E. Nicholas Mariani. It’s expected to focus on an international team of magicians who conspired with Maskelyne to take down the Nazis. Trevorrow will serve as one of the producers through his company Metronome Films.

Multiple outlets confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to return as Doctor Strange in the forthcoming Spiderman feature, the third installment of Sony’s franchise. 

News of Cumberbatch’s casting follows last week’s news that Jamie Foxx is coming back to play Electro. 

Cumberbatch’s casting marks the third major crossover between the films produced by Disney’s Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Doctor Strange will take on the role of Iron Man for Tom Holland’s hero, and act as a mentor for Spider-Man.

The third SpiderMan movie is scheduled to open in theaters on December 17, 2021.

The latest release delay is the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This time, the film’s already new November 5, 2021 date, has been updated to March 25, 2022. 

Disney has had to do a complete reshuffle of its release calendar following theater closures and production shutdowns due to the Coronavirus.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange made his debut in 2016. He then appeared in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Cumberbatch will reprise his role alongside Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Elizabeth Olsen who starred in the original film. The co-star, Rachel McAdams, however, will not.

Scott Derrickson, who directed 2016’s Doctor Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character, was scheduled to reprise his role for the sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With filming set to begin in just a few months, Derrickson has now pulled out of the project. 

Marvel confirmed the news in a statement which read, “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

It appears as though there is no bad blood, as Derrickson released a statement of his own. “Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences,” he wrote in a tweet. “I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.”

The original Doctor Strange grossed over $677 million worldwide with the sequel scheduled to begin shooting in May ahead of a May 7th, 2021 release.
