Based on the book Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War by Eric Dezenhall and Gus Russo, this film will center on CIA agent Jack Platt and KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko, a pair of Cold War spies who developed an unlikely friendship, after being sent to convince each other into betraying their country.

The project is still in the early stages of development, and no studios or streamers are attached to it yet, but Netflix and Apple are reportedly leading the chase for this hot package. Best of Enemies is still looking for a director, as well, but it’s possible Cooper would step behind the camera following his work on A Star is Born and Maestro.

Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale previously co-starred in David O. Russell’s crime comedy American Hustle, and both received Oscar nominations for their respective performances. Best of Enemies would also mark their second collaboration with screenwriter Eric Warren Singer, who co-wrote the script for American Hustle.

Cooper took a walk down memory lane during a recent interview with The New Yorker Radio Hour and said he wouldn’t say “no” to returning for another Hangover movie.

“I would probably do Hangover 4 in an instant. Just because I love Todd, I love Zach, I love Ed so much, I probably would. I don’t think Todd is ever going to do that,” said Cooper.

All three films in the Hangover franchise were directed by Todd Phillips, who also made a genre shift in recent years with Joker. Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha played lead roles alongside Cooper, forming a quartet of friends dealing with the consequences of their wild shenanigans by each other’s side.

After breaking into Hollywood with this comedy franchise, Cooper went on to receive four acting Oscar nods for Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, American Sniper, and A Star is Born. He made his directorial debut with the last film and continued his work as a director with the biopic Maestro, which hit the theaters last week.

Netflix’s official synopsis describes this film as “the towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.”

Maestro had the world premiere at this year’s Venice International Film Festival, as one of the films in the running for the Golden Lion. It will be released in selected theatres on November 22, before premiering on Netflix on December 20.

About a month ahead of the festival’s opening night, Venice bosses finally shared the full lineup with the world. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Michael Mann’s Ferrari, and Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla are only some of the high-profile projects set to premiere as a part of the “in competition” program, while Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Richard Linklater’s Hit Man will premiere out of competition.

Edoardo De Angelis’s Comandante will serve as the festival’s opening film after Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers withdraw from the festival as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Several A-list stars are expected to miss the festival for this reason, but the artistic director Alberto Barbera is still certain that the red carpet will be pretty full.

“Luckily enough the consequences of this strike – which has very good motivations we can agree to – the impact is quite modest on our festival. A few stars will not be with us… We will have actors and actresses who have worked in productions that are fully independent,” said Barbera while talking to the press.

The 80th Venice International Film Festival will return to Italy between August 30 and September 9, with Damien Chazelle serving as the jury president.

The comedian is known for cracking jokes and making satirical remarks about a variety of topics, but she will be keeping the laughs to a minimum when she next steps in front of the camera.

The Marry Me star has been cast in Bradley Cooper’s forthcoming biopic on Leonard Bernstein.

The first photos from Maestro were released last week, with Cooper’s transformation into the late composer stunning audiences. Complete with white hair and facial prosthetics, Cooper is barely recognizable.

The movie marks Cooper’s second venture in the director’s chair following A Star is Born for which he received an Oscar nomination. The film was originally slated to be directed by Steven Spielberg who had propositioned Cooper for the lead, but the Licorice Pizza actor agreed only on the condition that Spielberg remain executive producer and allow him to helm the Netflix flick, as well as write the screenplay.

Maestro will focus on the complex relationship between Bernstein and his wife Felicia, who will be played by Carey Mulligan. Maya Hawke will fill the role of their daughter Jamie, while Matt Bomer has been cast as Bernstein’s lover. Silverman is set to play the composer’s sister Shirley.

Filming is currently underway, with Maestro scheduled for a 2023 release.

Licorice Pizza will be your cup of tea if you’re a fan of Anderson’s early movies, such as Boogie Nights and Magnolia since it has the same setting and similar vibe. It centers on a teenage actor as he chases ambition, romance, and youthful abandon against the backdrop of LA.

Cooper Hoffman, whose late father Philip Seymour Hoffman used to be one of Anderson’s frequent collaborators, is set to make his acting debut in Licorice Pizza along with Alana Haim from the all-sister rock band Haim. This project will also star Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper, and Benny Safdie.

Licorice Pizza will be Anderson’s first full-length film since Phantom Thread, which came out in 2017 and scored him his second Oscar nomination for the best director. It will get a limited release on November 26th, followed by a wide release on December 25th.

Based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name, Nightmare Alley follows Stan Carlisle (Cooper), a carney who excels at manipulating people with a few words, who meets psychiatrist Dr. Lilith Ritter, who’s even more dangerous.

Also starring in the film are Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Rooney Mara, Holt McCallany, Tim Blake Nelson, Mary Steenburgen, David Strathairn, Clifton Collins Jr., Jim Beaver, Mark Povinelli, David Hewlett, Romina Power, and Paul Anderson.

Del Toro and Kim Morgan wrote the movie and J. Miles Dale produced with del Toro.

This marks del Toro’s first time behind the camera since 2018’s The Shape of Water, for which he won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director. Nightmare Alley is a departure from his normal works as there are no supernatural elements.

“Now is the first chance I have to do a real underbelly of society type of movie,” del Toro told Collider in 2019. “[There are] no supernatural elements. Just a straight, really dark story.”
