All Of Us Strangers came into this year’s British Independent Film Awards as one of the main contenders, and it lived up to the hype! Andrew Haigh’s star-studded drama walked away with seven awards at this year’s ceremony, including the best British film.

It was also a great night for its star Paul Mescal, who won the award for the best supporting performance, tying with Shaun Thomas in How to Have S-x.

The British Independent Film Awards are coming back in December, and we finally know who’ll be in the running for top awards. The list of nominees has been unveiled, with the romantic comedy Rye Lane leading the way with a total of 16 nods.

Rye Lane is one of the contenders for the best British independent film, but it will have to face tough competition to take the trophy home. Scrapper and All of Us Strangers—both nominated for 14 awards each—are also competing for this award, alongside Femme and How to Have S-x.

Rye Lane is also in the running in several more major categories, including best director (Raine Allen-Miller), best joint lead performance (David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah), best screenplay (Nathan Bryon), and best breakthrough performance (Oparah).

Many A-list stars have been nominated for awards in the acting field, including Jodie Comer and Katherine Waterston for The End We Start From, Tilda Swinton for The Eternal Daughter, and the main cast of All of Us Strangers: Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Jamie Bell, and Claire Foy.

Movie experts already started making predictions for this year’s awards season, and it seems like they’ve already found their favorite. The intriguing period drama The Favourite is leading the way on the list of nominations for a major ceremony – the British Independent Film Awards.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film tells the story of a frail Queen Anne and two women fighting for her attention. Olivia Colman, who already emerged as an Oscar favorite, will test the ground at the upcoming BIFA ceremony where she received a nomination for best actress. Both her co-stars, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, got nods in the best-supporting-actress category.

The Favourite won’t hit theaters until November 23, but it already had a world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. It was met with critical acclaim and received two major awards – the Grand Jury Prize and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. We can’t wait to see if it replicates the same success at this year’s British Independent Film Awards on December 2, when the ceremony takes place.

The 2023 British Independent Film Awards will return on December 3, with Susan Wokoma and Morfydd Clark serving as hosts.

The Favourite really lived up to its name at this year’s British Independent Film Awards! Everyone expected it to be the front-runner at this ceremony, but this twisted period piece exceeded everyone’s expectations and ended up winning 10 shiny statues by the end of the night.

The Favourite received 13 nods at BIFA Awards and only ended up losing three of them. It proved its worth in all the major categories, including best picture, director and screenplay. The Favourite tells the story of frail Queen Anne and two women desperately fighting for her attention – her long-term confidante Sarah Churchill and young newcomer Abigail Hill. It premiered at Venice International Film Festival to rave reviews and won Grand Jury Prize and the Volpi Cup.
