]]>Autumn Variations was released on September 29, through Sheeran’s own label Gingerbread Man. It featured a total of 14 songs, each one honoring a different one of his friends, inspired by the same concept that shaped Edward Elgar’s seminal work Enigma Variations.
Sheeran thanked his fans for listening to Autumn Variations and making it No. 1 and said he hopes they’ll continue liking this album.
“It’s my first album on my own record label [Gingerbread Man Records], so this means more than any other award I’ve had. Thanks for all the support; it’s been amazing to get reconnected with the fans over the past few months,” Sheeran said in an official statement to Official Charts.
As for the rest of the UK chart for this week, Olivia Rodrigo’s second studio album Guts returned to No. 2 for the third consecutive week, while Jorja Smith’s Falling or Flying took the No. 3 spot. Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” returned to No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart, followed by Kenya Grace’s “Strangers” and Tate McRae’s “Greedy”.

“So Autumn Variations is out now! This is an album purely for you, the fans. There’s no singles, no videos, it’s on my own label, so no pressure for anything. I just want you guys to have a soundtrack for autumn/fall that feels like a warm hug. I hope you love it,” explained Sheeran on social media.
Even though he won’t release any music videos or official singles, Sheeran came up with a different way to get his fans hyped up for Autumn Variations. He’s planning to share live acoustic versions of the songs, some of which were recorded in the homes of the singer’s fans.
Autumn Variations is Sheeran’s second album released this year, following Subtract back in May, and it features a total of 14 songs, inspired by the singer’s closest friends.

]]>Sheeran’s new album Autumn Variations is hitting the shelves on September 29, and it’s his first non-collaborative album outside of his signature mathematical series. It draws inspiration from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, and each of the songs on this record is inspired by one of Sheeran’s friends.
He’s also planning to release a live version of Autumn Variations, and this album came together in a pretty interesting way.
“So I did some surprise pop-up gigs in fans’ houses, secretly recording a live album of Autumn Variations where each song is recorded in a different fans’ living room, but all of it was a total surprise,” wrote Sheeran on social media.
The singer teased the live version of his upcoming album by sharing a video from the home of his fan Kari Conaway. After playing one of the Autumn Variations songs, Conaway took him on a house tour, and he agreed to play another song on the piano: “Wake Me Up” from his debut studio album Plus.

]]>It’s only been a few months since Ed Sheeran dropped his latest album Subtract, and its follow-up is already on the way! The British singer officially announced the release of his next album Autumn Variations after teasing it for weeks on social media.
Sheeran dropped several hints about his autumn-themed album this month, and he finally made things official in one of his recent Instagram posts. He announced that his next album Autumn Variations will be out on September 29, and its title is inspired by one iconic English composer.
“My dad and brother told me about a composer called [Edward] Elgar, who composed Enigma Variations, where each of the 14 compositions were about a different one of his friends. This is what inspired me to make this album,” explained Sheeran.
He added that 14 songs on his new album were inspired by the many life changes Sheeran and his friends went through recently, from the highs of falling in love and forming new friendships to the lows of dealing with heartbreak, depression, loneliness, and confusion.
2023 has been a pretty busy year for Sheeran, and he already shared another album with the world before announcing Autumn Variations. Subtract concluded his mathematical era back in May and produced singles “Eyes Closed”, “Boat”, and “Life Goes On”.

Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and Mark Ronson joined them instead, and Sheeran said he could only imagine himself hitting the Super Bowl stage to support someone else.
“The only way that I would do it, is if I was joining someone else. I don’t have pizazz. Like, all of these amazing performers — I’m just not that. I’m not gonna have dancers on stage. I’m not gonna have fireworks. I don’t think that anyone wants to see me do the Super Bowl either,” he explained.
Even though he claims he has no “pizazz” to carry a Super Bowl performance, Sheeran is no stranger to sold-out stadium shows. His Divide Tour set the record for the highest-grossing concert tour when it concluded in 2019 before Elton John broke the record with his final Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour this year.

“This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and everything just reminds you of them and the things you did together,” said Sheeran in a press release.

Sheeran revealed he was “spiraling through fear, depression and anxiety” and he wanted his music to reflect how he was feeling during this time, without worrying if people will like it.
“As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life. This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul,” wrote Sheeran.
Subtract will be released on May 5, and it’s expected to serve as the last entry in Sheeran’s “mathematical” series. The full tracklist of the standard edition will include 14 songs, but the singer recorded several more tracks for the deluxe CD and vinyl editions.
